Overview
Indigestion is also referred to as dyspepsia. It is a feeling of pain or discomfort in the upper abdomen that is accompanied by a sense of fullness, bloating, and flatulence. Sedentary lifestyle, dietary habits, particular drugs, and specific gastrointestinal disorders including GERD are a few of the frequent reasons of indigestion. In most situations, dyspepsia may be managed with minor dietary and lifestyle adjustments, moderate alcohol and fizzy beverage consumption, and regular physical activity. The use of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs such antacids is advised to treat dyspepsia if lifestyle changes are ineffective. To treat the underlying cause of indigestion, prescription medications such as prokinetics and antibiotics may also be suggested. Antacid use can reduce indigestion symptoms. Losing weight, eating smaller, more frequent meals, chewing food completely, and avoiding triggers like fatty foods and fizzy beverages can prevent indigestion.
