Sinusitis

Overview

Inflammation or swelling of the tissue lining of the sinuses is known as sinusitis. There are four pairs of sinuses in the skull. Sinuses are cavities or spaces. They're linked by tiny channels. Each sinus in a healthy person is lined with a membrane that secretes mucus. The upper portion of your nose is filled with a thin, watery liquid called muscus that freely drains from your sinuses. This drainage assists in keeping the nose germ-free and clean. Mucus becomes thick and sticky and is unable to move into the nose when sinuses become inflamed by a virus, bacterial infection, allergies, or other irritants. Because of the fluid buildup as a result, pressure, discomfort, and other symptoms are experienced in the sinuses. Sinusitis can be treated by the application of nasal decongestants, antiallegens and antibiotics medication. In mild sinusitis, patient can do some home remedies like steam inhalation, use of saline nasal drops, properly hydrate the body and use of humidifier.
